Activists and artists have worked together for decades to bring about social and cultural transformation. Video in the Community teaches university students topics and skills related to media activism and technology as a means for better understanding and changing their environments. Students from all disciplines are inspired by learning the latest in video production while at the same time using the creative potential of media within the community as a tool to bring about social and cultural transformation.

Video in the Community allows students to apply their production, leadership and problem-solving skills in the real world while at the same time provides quality videos for nonprofit organizations that had previously found video services out of their reach.

Each semester students work as artists and activists in collaboration with community partners to identify, develop and produce different media projects relevant to those communities. These include public service announcements, fund-raising and marketing media, documentaries, educational video, dramatic shorts, and media literacy and community building tools.
