Video Editing Steps

  • Objective: 
    • To introduce the participant to the basic requirements and steps to creating videos with students.
    • To create or copy a classroom idea in the creation of a video.
    • Upload finished video to TeacherTube and then copy and paste the link into the submission area of WebCT
  • Task:
    • Create a video.   This will be a curriculum video.  A sample output of what your students will have done. You can create your own or do something from the Apple Learning Exchange. Later in the teacher education program you will be asked to video yourself teaching a lesson.  This assignment should help with the finished product you produce from that lesson. Your project may/should include still photos, motion video, music, and narration.  
  • Materials Needed:
    • Digital Video (DV) Camera ( I have these) or your own digital camera
    • Fire wire cable
    • Video Production Software: I-Movie (Mac), Movie Maker (Windows XP)
    • USB (128mb or bigger) for storage
    • Microphone (very handy these days with a lot of software )

      • Pitch:  What is the overall idea of this production, what story are you trying to tell and how are you going to do it. This is an overview of your production. This a is a link to one I use for a very specific unit in my science class.
      • Storyboard or Plan:  Very detailed description of each segment of the video.  I have found that PowerPoint is a great tool for this
    • Audio Files
    • Media Converter:  Change files from the internet into something you can use in MovieMaker or change a file you have into a usable file.
    • List of supported files in MovieMaker:
      • Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma
      • Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf
      • Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv
