Poem from Memory

Each student will perform a poem by memory. The poem should meet the following criteria:

The poem should be by a poet born no earlier than the 20th century.

bullet

The poem should be no less than 15 lines long.

bullet

The poem may be chosen from one of three sources: the National Endowment for the Art’s website for Poetry Out Loud (POL), the Library of Congress' website for Poetry 180 or from poems in Palm of Your Hand.

 The process for completing this unit will be three steps:

Visit the websites and print 3 poems that interest you.

bullet

Bring these poems to class on 2/9.

bullet

At conferences and class meetings on or before 3/25, students will perform the selected poem from memory. Poems performed in class will receive consideration for extra points.
