Exam 1 study guide
- This exam will be covering all of Chapter 1.
- The important topics in chapter 1 are listed on page 163,
except that we (for now) deemphasized real world problems (except
for Section 1.3).
- You MUST know how to solve linear and quadratic equations
(and inequalities) in all the ways that we studied.
- You should be able to rework general equations (involving
polynomials, absolute values, roots or fractional expressions)
in such a way that you can use techniques for linear and quadratic
equations/inequalities in order to solve them.
- Make sure you know how to deal with fractions, roots, absolute
values and complex numbers.
- You should be familiar with all the terminology we are using.
- I suggest doing as many problems from page 164-167 as you can
(at least one of them will be on the exam).
- Do the chapter test on page 169 (only if you have the time and
want to check how you are doing.)
- If you have the time for it, then doing extra problems
from the book is the way to go in any Math class.
The more you work with the concepts, the "readier" you are going to be.
- Some problems on the exam may throw you off at first.
Make sure that you get a good nights sleep, so that you are fresh,
rested and ready to go!
