General Homework remark: Try all problems, you never know which one is easy -- this is especially true for Combinatorial Arguments.
From now on we will call "nonnegative integers" simply "natural numbers". N={0,1,2,3,...} is the set of natural numbers.
We also define 0⁰=1. Observe that thus x⁰=1 for all x. However, for all positive numbers k, 0^k=0 and 0^-k is undefined.

A Magic Carpet, is something that is kind of like a Magic Square: it is a square array in which all the row and column sums are equal, but numbers may be used repeatedly.
The electronic reserve (see link below) will contain the archive of the lectures, as well as the archive of homework solutions.
