Notes
The notes for MIS302 were created using Microsoft Office 2000 version of PowerPoint (v 9.0). Downloading, viewing, and printing the course notes should be possible from any computer that has Windows 95/98/NT/2K/XP, Office 2000/2002, an Internet connection, and a printer. If you have problems accessing the notes, then you should immediately notify me. There is no guarantee as to the usability of these notes on a Macintosh computer. If you do not have Microsoft Office 2000/2002, you can download the Microsoft PowerPoint 97 viewer from the Utilities page of the course website.
Prerequisites: All lower-division pre-business core and a successful completion of the CSUSM computer competency requirement (CCR). http://www.csusm.edu/computer_labs/ccr.htm Office Hours: Office hours are to be used to get help with homework assignments and to clarify any concepts from the lecture. If you have missed class DO NOT come to office hours expecting a private lecture. All of the lecture notes are posted on the class website. Announcements: Many course announcements will be distributed over the Internet via electronic mail (an Internet mailing list). Failure to have read a message from me is not an excuse for missing any assignment deadlines and/or changes. Writing Requirement: CSUSM has established a 2,500 word writing requirement (10 pages) for each course. To meet this requirement each student will complete the writing assignments described in this course outline. Assignment Submissions: All homework assignments are available to you on the course website via the course schedule. Assignment submissions are due at the beginning of class. Late work will not be accepted under any circumstances! If the campus computers, networks, or printing facilities are down you are still responsible for turning in your work on time! If you will be unable to attend class, email your assignments to the instructor prior to the start of class. All assignment submissions must be accompanied by a cover sheet, which lists the following information:
Any missing items from the coversheet, or a completely missing coversheet will cost you points. All submissions are expected to be professional including the following:
I will try to return your work as soon as possible. I can only achieve this goal if the papers submitted are neat and readable. Examinations: Quizzes There will be 3 quizzes giving during the course of the semester. You will take these quizzes online using WebCT. You can access WebCT from this course web site by clicking here. Here is a link for information on WebCT: http://courses.csusm.edu/support/basicwebct.html There will be a midterm and final examinations given during the semester. No makeup exams will be give under any circumstances! Midterm There will be a midterm examination. Final There will be a final examination. Group Project: There will be a group project and brief presentation at the end of the semester. This project will involve company research, summary report and presentation to the class. Class Conduct: I do not take attendance nor will seats be assigned. Skipping class will hinder your ability to perform well on the examinations. You may also miss in-class assignments. Students who are borderline but do not come to class will never receive the higher grade. Because this course is held in a computer classroom you may not bring in any food or drink! If you must leave early, please sit by the door. Academic Dishonesty: Please do your own work unless you are working on a group activity. Grade Appeals: If you are not satisfied with an assignment grade you have received, you are welcome to discuss it with me. Appeals for any particular assignment/exam may be made up to one week after the assignment has been returned to you. Grade Determination:
If possible a straight grading scale will be employed, i.e. 90% = "A", 80% = "B", 70% = "C", etc. If the course needs to be curved at the end of the semester, it will be curved. I do not curve individual assignments. You must receive a grade of "C" or better in order for this course to count toward a degree in Business.
