This is the famous, or rather infamous, site
where mostly US pilots (but others as well) were held as prisoners of war.
It was euphemistically called the Hanoi Hilton. Notice the blue
placard just under the doorway arch. It says something about not
taking pictures! Of course my Vietnamese is so very poor, . . . |

This is MIG-21, flown by the North Vietnamese
against American pilots. This particular one is in Ha Noi at a very
interesting war museum. I think one of the most interersting
things about this museum is that it is comprised primarily of artifacts from
the first Indochina war--i.e., the war with the French. I find
something about monuments to French failure particularly inspiring. |

This is the same museum where I photographed the MIG.
This is a Soviet-made T 54 tank (?). Tanks like this one rolled into Saigon in April
1975, ending America's presence. |
