Transgression and Subjectivity

I plan on speaking about how the old mobster movies have influenced the
new movies and series. I’m going to be basing my research on The
Godfather and The Sopranos. Both these movies are related to the Italian
Mafia.I would like to portray the similarities of The Godfather with The
Sopranos and how one took after another.

All three parts of The Godfather focuses a lot on family values and
respect. When I say respect, I’m not talking about respecting your
elders, you respect made men, and the captains. You have a Godfather and
you have the Boss. Both have legitimate businesses where the FBI cannot
get them for money laundering, which is what really goes on. The Mafia is
known to be very strong in New York, but I have learned through these
two on-going movies and series, the Mafia is everywhere. Religion is very
important in these films. The Catholic cross symbolizing Jesus is worn by
the Italian mobsters and their wives. They make sure the kids follow the
religion with strict commitment. Overall this presentation will be backed
up with film picks from both The Godfather and The Sopranos
