• Interiors: (pg. 19): eye of the camera taking us inside, “penetrating”

• Bodies (pg. 22): the body of the primitive is object of examination

-material value (productivity, as labor suppy)

-esthetic value (“natural” beauty, purity, exotic)

-scientific value (evidence of racial difference)

-humanitarian value (a sign of suffering)

-erotic value as the desired
