The chat tool allows you to meet with students in real time (synchronous). Your chat tool can be labeled Virtual Office and is ideal for virtual online office hours--especially for online courses.
WebCT provides four chat rooms that you can re-name. These rooms can be used for student group meetings. Each chat session generates a script which is saved in a folder named "chat" in your My Files.
When students need to collaborate on a group project or presentation, the Chat tool allows them to schedule a virtual rather than face-to-face meeting.
The chat tool can be a powerful resource but it is also easy for a chat session to fall apart. Before scheduling your first online chat, learn from some experienced users of this tool.
