Examples of Different Kinds of Streaming--QT, RealPlayer, reatime and progressive
Below are examples
different kinds of streaming videos. Each of the first three examples plays
in realtime from the rtsp server, Emmy. The path set in Cleaner to these movies
is: rtsp://emmy.csusm.edu:554/diekman/vsar305f03/ked/
When you set paths for your movies, it will also look like this, except that
it will have your initials for your directory, and the file name for your movie.
1. Quicktime RealTime Streaming, 56k single rate
This RealTime streaming
video is a Quicktime movie, compressed at only one data rate (for 56k modem).
The original video was177 Mb, and now is compressed to about 1.9 Mb.
It was compressed in Cleaner with Sorenson 3 compressor, 16 bit mono audio.
The audio is not very good.
The plugin above is on the http server along with this html page, and the plugin
(or ref movie) for this video is named "QuickTime4_Required.mov",
because it is compressed at a single data rate. This file contains a path to
the actual 56k movie on Emmy in my folder. The path set in Cleaner is: rtsp://emmy.csusm.edu:554/vsar305/ked/gathvoice2_56.mov
2. QuickTime
RealTime Streaming, Variable Rates
This QuickTime movie can be streamed in any of three connection speeds; 56k, 112k (ISDN), 256k (DSL/Cable). It was made in cleaner using "alternates". I experimented with the properties of the alternates.
The above plugin is a "master movie" or
"reference movie" with the naming convention
of _MSTR.mov. It also resides on the http server with
this html page, and contains information embedded
in it to call up and play one of the alternates on
Emmy in my folder.
3. RealPlayer Surestream
RealPlayer movies
do not embed (very easily). So I provide a link from this web page which links
to the metafile or .ram file created in Cleaner, which in turn calls up the
RealPlayer streaming movie. The .ram file contains the path to the realtime
streaming video, and it resides on the http along with this webpage. This RealPlayer
video plays at five different connection rates that I set in Cleaner. Surestreams
adjust dynamically.
